Dereham Ladies 1 vs UEA -

Dereham’s ladies 1s started their league fixtures with a very wet and windy game away to UEA.

From whistle one Dereham worked hard, applying pressure on the UEA side. This led to UEA making some early mistakes allowing Dereham to attack as a unit. Too fast for the UEA side (maybe all this fitness is working), Dereham worked the ball into the D with Ge slotting the ball home 1-0 Dereham. Lined up ready to go again, the ref blew his whistle and Dereham applied more pressure causing UEA to make more mistakes to steal the ball. Again working the ball into the D, Ella slotted the ball home 2-0. UEA decided that after two goals in under 10 minutes it was time to switch on. They caught Dereham on the break playing it high to their forwards who work well together to put it pass Jess despite her best efforts 2-1. With all the action happening in 15 minutes it all seemed steady, both Dereham and UEA receiving short corners that couldn’t be converted. It was the last push before half time and Dereham won a short, Dain called option three. Tash plays a lovely ball across the D to Lucy on the P-spot who deflected it past the keeper 3-1. Finally it seemed that the short corner practice was coming together. The half time whistle blew.

The Dereham ladies were in good spirits at half time, with a good chat from Captain and Coach. Second half began and UEA ladies had clearly had a talking too and started strong. With lots of possession and finding cracks in the Dereham press they found themselves in the D winning a short. Thankfully the Dereham defence kept them out. Dereham then picked it up taking back possession of the ball. Ella, Grace and Taylor making some super runs upfront allowed Dereham to stretch the pitch. All of this running became to much for Ella who decided to waste a bit of time and got her foot stuck in the fence. After being rescued by the Umpire we were good to go again. Another brilliant bit of unit play saw the ball being played from a 16 up the pitch to find Grace, who used her skills and speed to beat the UEA defence. Grace then played a cracking ball across the D to Eve, who played slip and slide across the pitch to tap the ball into the goal 4-1. UEA gave it all they had, even pulled out the karate skills but were not able to break the Dereham team. The final whistle went, 4-1.
